Hallo. =D
I just read the posts from Liz and Yann Ting about the farewell, and I've just been inspired to write something...it's that irritating inner sense that just keeps bugging me to DO MY JOB. So. This is to the dear comm of 0809
LIZ. I know I've got HUGE feet to fill, but I seriously dunno about the big feet thing...my feet look pretty small to me...=D but anyways, thanks for everything you've done, and thanks for all the encouragement...yes, I do have faith...lots of it...now's the time to put the faith into action! So, choir, let's get all those vocal chords movin'!! =}BTW, did I do a good job summarising stuff at the farewell? hehehe...yeah...no substantial information came out in the end, right? soryy...You were great in the good times and the bad, and somehow, you knew how to handle EVERY single situation...man...you're awesome. =)
Gabby. You're a great person. You know, this might be quite ironic (read the next statement over and over a few times and you'll get it...) I look up to the way you can lead so well by being humble. I look up to your 'humbleness'. LOL. seriously...you're always full of hope and faith for the choir, and it's been FABULOUS having you as a role model. THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Nicole. Ahh...once again, you've been amazing...I think it's really funny when you look so stressed when there are problems with scores...your face reads: "HELLO?!? can you please be, like, wayyyy more responsible?" =D so cute...Thanks for being so concerned about details...it was like as if you were a thin thread that strung the small bits in the choir together. THANKKOOO
Violette. You are so talented. Really. I guess you already know that, so lets get on with things...OMG. The farewell song thing was so hilarious. CAUSE IT WAS SO WELL COMPOSED!!! =D We just realised how difficult it is to compose something tailor-made, straight-from-your-heart, and with a different lyricist and composer. Yeah, that's why we had to sing you the ready-made stuff...WHICH TURNED OUT AWESOME. In short, you're beyond words, and though it's hard to let you go, it's part of life I know. LOL. Thanks. For everything.
Christine. Your speech was THE most inspiring thing I've ever heard. More inspiring than Tiff's Fried Food speech. I was dumbstruck when I saw so many people crying. And, we could tell that you spoke from your heart. I'm devastated you (and all the other sec 4s) have to leave choir...AND, you woke me up to start REALLY SAVOURING the time I have left in the choir, cause now I'm scared that I will have the same reaction to leaving choir as you...I wonder...anyway, thanks!!!
Rebekah You are the sweetest person I’ve ever met. Seriously. You may not talk so much, and you may not be a people person, but you somehow manage to catch my attention with your quiet ways...it’s amazing...The way you worked with the Alto2s was suttle, and yet, effective...you’ve given Wey-Lynn and Sarah good grounds to work on...And I can see that you adore choir...Thank you for all the moments we’ve spent together, and...just...Thank you. =)
Ally You may be scary, but not scary enough for me :) You still give me the creeps, though...hehe...I’m glad I got to know you (eventhough it may not have been enough...) , and I enjoyed the times we had together, talking about how dumb our brothers will look doing the crazy concert....blahblahblah...yeah....THANKSMUCH!
I think that’s about it. I figured, since I had to summarise everything up during the farewell, I should write a ‘longer summary’ here. It’s still a summary, though...Hey, Yann Ting & Maria, still keep the 1 hour slot for me to talk at next year’s farewell, ah!! LOLZ.
To the up-and-maybe-too-happening comm. of 0910, I HAVE TONS OF HOPE FOR US :)...so, lets go get movin’ k? Haha...just kidding...cause we’re already moving, right? Haha...kidding again!!...LOL. I can imagine Siying telling me after she reads this...”Ellissa, you’re the most retarded person on Earth, and I think you know that. Who can make such lame jokes?” Of course, in this situation, she would have to be reminded of Liz and Gabby...=D
So, Thank you to everyone who has impacted the choir, and I hope that the next year is truly A song (legacy) that never ends
Lots of Love,
ellissasayampanathan

goodbye, pretty ladies.
HELLO CHOIR.
i know i didnt have a(nother) chance to give a lovely speech to you girls just now, but i really want to thank you all for one of the most amazing nights of my life. from every moment of your planning to every second of the night, i knew that so much had been poured into organising this for us. and we really want to tell you that we appreciate it so very much.
thank you for the wonderful scrapbooks and the hugs and the smiles and the songs and the pictures. it's been four years of memories jampacked into one emotional night (though i didnt really cry) and it will be for each and every one of you girls too, soon.
i've had a great time with the committee leading the mgchoir, and there's so much to learn from each other. the most sincere and heartfelt thanks to the mgchoir committee 0809 for being awesome (of course) and giving your best to the choir.
ellissa, you're extremely long-winded but that's what makes you who you are. you think you have big shoes to fill, but actually you have pretty big feet too (: have faith in yourself, have faith in your committee, have faith in the choir because that's what/who you're going to be leading.
ruth, i know the heart of yours isnt done with the choir yet, and i know you will continue doing everything you can for everyone you meet. support ellissa and support every girl in the choir, and remember to turn off the lights and aircon in the chapel and yell at the choir for not arranging the pews properly. i know you'll enjoy it (:
yannting, you remind me of myself, i've told you this before. you're going to lead the choir to even greater heights with ellissa and ruth and the rest of the committee, i know it. and remember, keep the passion, because it's rare (:
daphne + rachael, congratulations, you two have gotten the hardest job of all (in my opinion), but i know you two will handle it well. (: support each other and work together, and remember not to lose any money or scores (tsk tsk tsk).
rachel fits + lee khim, you two may think that it's impossible to take over violette+christine, and of course you girls wont be able to. you'll take on their roles and continue growing in it, so that the choir will bloom under your guidance.
christina, marian, christie, michelle, siying, maria, weylynn, sarah, just because i grouped you all together doesnt mean youre too insignificant to be listed individually. it's because i just want all of you to know that, by working together, you all are going to be the ones who impact the choir the most, by impacting each individual girl who enters and leaves. i have faith in you girls. (:
it's going to be a rollercoaster ride of emotions, but it's at the end of the ride, that you'll really wish you could go on it again.
i know,
because i do.
all my love, and all of God's blessings.
liz.

Hello my dear choir(:
So, I just got back from the farewell literally minutes ago. Like, my eyes are still all red and puffy and swollen. The whole thing was incredible really, even considering the frenzy we were in while we prepared. And even though I wish I could've stayed for the entire thing, it was still an incredible night. I think I cried more than I did when I was watching Marley&Me and Up and Bridge to Terabithia and Spiderman2 combined. Can't believe it.
But yeah, I just wanted to tell you guys how amazing tonight was. I don't even know how to describe how much I'm going to miss all you sec 4s. You're all wonderful and perfect in your own ways and the choir will never be the same without you, ever. The choir would be nothing without your caring hearts, strong vision and unrelenting determination and I believe that I speak on behalf of the whole choir when I say that we love you so much.
There's this quote that I really like:
I think it speaks for itself. So, seeing how many tears were shed tonight, anyone will be able to tell how much all of you seniors really mean to us. You've touched our lives, even if it's just in small ways.
As part of the new comm, I can only hope what small impact I have on the choir will be just as wonderful as the tremendous ones you have left on us. And I'll say it again, we love you so much:D
To the rest of the choir, I'm sure the sec4s mean a lot to all of you and they've truly done so so much for us. So, now it's up to us to continue the legacy they've left behind and bring the choir to even greater and greater heights. I know all of you want to make them proud and not let them down. It's the least we owe to them isn't it? (:
I'm not usually a person of many words so, I shall end of with another quote. From High School Musical 3, haha however cheesy it may be. But it just popped into my head and I think it's pretty appropriate so. "It was a night to last forever, and we'll never ever never ever never ever never ever forget"
Much much much loove,
yannting♥

As you know, CCMC performance is in two days time!
just a reminder:
- be in school @ 7.10am on sunday at concourse
- wear school uniform, make sure it's all neat, hair included
- we're singing two services, so we finish at 12.40 (according to ellissa, must add 10mins)
Please take care of the voice/vocal chords. it's not nice to get sore throat, esp. before performance. Look over the scores, and prepare! Sleep early!
ohoh. and must check the blog for updates! yay.

Hi choir!
Common tests are coming up! :O Study hard horh. Okay, wait. That's not the point. Anyways, there is a concert by ACSI coming up so if you want to go, please tell Daphne by tomorrow... It's on the 14th of August-this coming Friday. It's at ACS (Independant) Centre for Performing Arts 1-CPA 1. It's from 7.30pm to 9.30pm and the tickets are $10 each. Next, SYF photo orders/money. Please order through your ASL by the 19th of August and give her the money. If you don't want the photo, you'll have to give her a valid reason. Oh! Remember that there's no choir this week and it resumes next week, so remember to bring your scores for CCMC next week! (CCMC is next Sunday, if I'm not wrong... So practice your scores and try to memorise them!) Of course, studies come first. So, study hard!!! Good luck everyone!
btw, are we gonna link other choirs? I can link them if you want...
smiles,
michelle

Hi CHOIR!
This is like officially becoming my personal playground!
let me think of notices:
Rehearse Author of Life Divine, Gloria, Irish Blessing
Ticket orders for that concert thing are being taken now so tell your SLs/ASLs
OKAY NOW WATCH THIS!
IT IS AWESOME OKAY! It shows the beauty of harmony! And how awesome this song is and how we should strive to sound like that although we're not guys/tenors and listen to how high they can sing!
And this is what we should have sounded like? See how even if they aren't singing in their like mother tongue, they still sound kind of like it! We must be like them, and earn lots of money from singing to fund our tour next year!

Esplanade Presents...
Limelight - Celebrating Life, with Song
by the Methodist Girls' School Choir
7th April 2009, Tuesday
7.30pm
Esplanade Concert Hall
Ticket Price: $20 (concession for Students, NSF and Senior Citizens: $15)
Tickets can be bought from Esplanade Box Office and SISTIC's authorised agents
Songs are found in every culture and woven into daily life. While there are those that are from our childhood or tell of stories long ago, there are some which are part of rituals, and others which sing of the dance in our heart and feet .
From the sacred poetry Hildegarde von Bingen and the kulning calls of Swedish folk-hymn to the island dances of Japan and the sassy skirt-twirling dances of Latin America, The Methodist Girls’ School Choir celebrates life in every aspect, through song in this special choral performance.
About the Methodist Girls' School Choir
The Methodist Girls’ School Choir has been sharing the joy of music and singing through performances and competitions since their formation. One of 30 school choirs on Singapore’s Ministry of Education’s Choral Excellence Programme, the choir received the Gold award for the 4th Ambassador of the Arts Awards (2004) and has consistently achieved Gold awards in the biennial Singapore Youth Festival Central Judging Choir Competition. Representing Singapore in international festival-competitions, the Choir has toured San Francisco (1999), Athens (2004), Bratislava (2007) and Prague (2007) and returned with excellent results.
Coached by Ms Jennifer Tham since 1998 and Albert Tay since 2005, the choir’s wide-ranging repertoire embraces the work of living composers, contemporary sacred and art music as well as spiritual and gospel.

CANTABILE 2008
oh no! this is the part where you remove our names from the list of current mg choristers and tuck us away under the heading 'alumni 08'.
anyway, i'm here to say, on behalf of all the sec fours, that you guys delivered an absolutely delightful performance tonight and we are so extremely and incredibly proud of you all. we, your lovely seniors, had a wonderful time cheering you on, and you simply cannot imagine how much we wished we were up there on stage with you. but that aside, tonight was your night. and you totally owned it!
i'll tell you this: God loves the mg choir.
i miss you guys!
all my love,
claire

friday night, and the lights are low
to the mgchoir 2008:
i am so very very proud of you. you have no idea how many other people are too. i want to thank each and every one of you for putting in absolutely EVERYTHING you had to make this concert such a huge success. never heard such loud applause and cheers before, AND NEVER SEEN SO MANY FLASHING LIGHTS! ahahha. we're SUPERSTARS, yo! the teachers are crazily proud of us, the conductors (including ms j tham, i'm sure she'd be EXTREMELY proud), our lovely seniors, the audience, and most important of all,
yourselves.
we have worked so hard for this, and what we saw today was just awesome. AWEsome. AWEMUCH. hahahaha. see! isnt this much better than disappointing ourselves, hahaha. :Di will forever cherish every memory made, every note sung, every scream uh screamed, every heart that made today such a success.we didnt just make everyone around us proud,we impressed them and blew their socks off. or shoes. whichever.
to the mgchoir comm 2007-2008:
we made it.
and now, it's time for us to hand over and take the lead (yet again) to bring the choir to greater heights.
to the awesomest president i've ever seen: RACHEL CHIU BOBO.
i'll never forget everything you've done for me. i'll never forget the really difficult times we had when we first started working together. it wasnt easy; IT WAS DIFFICULT, but we did it. we did it! we're the best pair of boboheads ANYONE has ever seen. I LOVE YOU, THANKS FOR EVERYTHING! :D:D
to the most incredibly patient secretary: NICOLE CHEE.
i seriously hate your job, HAHAHAHA. i'm sorry i just have to say this. but oh well, you rock at it so who's complaining but you? hahahahaha. LOVE YOU SO MUCH, THANKS FOR EVERYTHING THESE PAST FEW/MANY YEARS. :D:D continue singing for the glory of God, yes! :D
to the craziest student conductress: VIOLETTE TRUONG.
I LOVE YOU LOVE YOU LOVE YOU LOVE YOU. SERIOUSLY. thanks for that awesome solo tonight, it had me grinning from EAR TO EAR again. i'll never forget all the stupid things we've done in choir, in europe, even today, in the toilet. HAHAHA.
to the group of insane sectional leaders: CHRISTINE LEE, GABRIELLE ONG, CLAIRE CHONG AND CHIAM QINGLING.i have you all to thank for teaching the choir the music, and for adding so much fun to practices. i'll never forget our sectionals (BEAR! :D) and how fruitFUL they always were. hahaha right! :D
we did it.
but now,
to the mgchoir comm 2008-2009:
well, it's only just started, you know. although i'm sure all of us are worn out already, it's only just the beginning (technically speaking.). you have no idea how proud i am of all of you (and we've only just begun working together!) yay i really hope the year ahead will be nothing short of amazing, and truly miraculous.
to the awesome powerpuff girls: MS THAM PEI WEN, MS ANGELA NG, MRS CHERIE HENG.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
mg choir concert was a blast.
i think the choir really just... went on to stage and just... enjoyed what they were singing
although most songs were rushed or out of tune, i think we really put in everything that we have learnt from all the past practices and rehearsals.
abba was fabulous. we really just enjoyed it and sang out. the audience was wonderful.
and to see all our old friends again was amazing. grace, feli, qing, enqi, rachel, patty, nicole, etc seeing all of them again was just... so awesome. and anna, jan, michelle chan, abi, roxanne, suat, all those from 3t and 3g. you guys were such an awesome audience and such good friends. i will never forget you guys for coming to support us. you guys are just great.
tjc was great too. i loved their dance moves. they did it with so much energy. i wish i could dance as well as them. HAHA.
we couldn't start dancing queen properly!!! HAHAHAHAHA and the encore was worse. HAHAHAA. but it was fun, cos we just sang and didn't care. HAHAHA.
after that when we went backstage, my ears were practically bleeding from all the screaming. it was like
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
non-stop.
so fun, i haven't screamed like that in such a long time. just couldn't stop screaming. HAHA.
and all our old friends came back to give us flowers. it was so sweet. i can never thank them enough. my gratitude towards them can't be put in words.
good job mg choir.
i can't believe this is my last day as an sl.
i love you guys sop ones. you guys are a great bunch and are lovely people to be with. and you ALL have amazing voices, unique voices. and it's really an honor be your leader. i know you guys have always been putting in your all and i thank you guys for that. i will never forget this experience of being an sl of you guys. i hope you guys continue to grow to be better singers and better performers. i will always be supporting all of you. and i'll be there if you need me.
i really can't believe it's my last day as an sl.
i hope i did well. i hope you guys continue to grow and love not only the choir, but music more each day. you guys have such great voices and it's been an honor.
:)
i will never forget all my experiences with all of you as an sl.
hope you won't too.
but i know that all this isn't about us. it just goes to show how faithful God is. He truly is miraculous in helping and guiding us through everything.
Give thanks with a grateful heart
Give thanks unto the Holy One
Give thanks because He's given Jesus Christ, His Son
Give thanks with a grateful heart
Give thanks unto the Holy One
Give thanks because He's given Jesus Christ, His Son
And now let the weak say, "I am strong"
Let the poor say, "I am rich
Because of what the Lord has done for us"
And now let the weak say, "I am strong"
Let the poor say, "I am rich
Because of what the Lord has done for us"
God is amazing. and all this goes back to Him.
In Christ alone my hope is found,
He is my light, my strength, my song;
this Cornerstone, this solid Ground,
firm through the fiercest drought and storm.
What heights of love, what depths of peace,
when fears are stilled, when strivings cease!
My Comforter, my All in All,
here in the love of Christ I stand
it's overwhelming. gosh, this really is my favourite song...
tonight has been so wonderful. everything passed so fast.. but they will remain in my heart and my mind forever.

CHOIR!
Hello,
so Founder's Day has passed. done better than i had expected it, what with the microphone system and dry acoustics in the hall etc. dont be discouraged, though, those of you who had hoped to have performed better. i'm sure our concert will be a BLAST. everything is working out pretty well now! besides choreo, but thats a whole different thing.
anyway,
28 JULY 2008 MONDAY (which is tomorrow)
CHINESE CHAPEL (haha however strange it sounds)
please remember your black files and to MEET OUTSIDE THE HALL (like usual) AT 6.45 AM SHARP. late comers will be fined with jumping jacks. :D
i've drawn up so new logos for the choir, so i'll just put them on here.

hahaha sorry my handwriting is kind of standard. anyone who has new ideas/designs please FEEL FREE to share them with the comm and the choir. the old logo is a little bit outdated, haha. here's what the old logo looks like, btw:

perform well tomorrow! but remember, it's for the glory of God's name.
till then, Elizabeth.

upcomings
HELLO CHOIR!
Important, please note that we will be rehearsing with the String Ensemble for the Founder's Day item. Here are the details (so make sure you've all gotten your music right by then!)
16 July (Wednesday)
3-3.30pm
Secondary School Hall
Also, practices are now extended by half an hour (i.e. ends at 6pm instead of 5.30pm). Please make any necessary arrangements.
Reminder that ALL THREE South American pieces are to be memorised by this week (9/7, 11/7 pracs). Yassa Bushi (and Yagi Bushi) is also to be memorised by the 18/7. To put things into better perspective, we have 11 practices until our concert and only 7 of them are conductor-led. I really hope you feel the urgency of things now.
I know we can put up a really great performance this year! :D it's just a bridge between potential and performance, so make sure you give everything your all. We're not just singers, by the way, we're performers, and we dont want half-hearted performers on stage. Alright, i shall stop nagging (:
thanks!
Elizabeth
PS some of you would have been invited to the MGS Choir group on facebook. those on facebook who havent been invited please request for an invite. :D
